The client
Our customer is a steel mill specialising in the production of forged bars, ingots and billets in stainless steels and super alloys. It has always invested in state-of-the-art technology and equipment to respond to increasingly complex and diversified projects.
The challenge
For our customer it was of crucial importance to secure a specific work area near a machine that produces large steel ingots and throws them outside on rollers that then unload the material onto the ground. This area is a restricted area and quite dangerous due to the risks associated with man and machine interference. It was necessary not only to make this workspace safer but also to monitor the area to improve production processes.
The solution
We proposed the ICOY GUARDIAN solution that supervises and controls certain critical internal and external areas (Red Zones) by creating surveillance perimeters. In this case, these are the areas where mechanical arms or robots operate.
The perimeter was defined based on the environmental analysis and the customer’s needs. Once the surveys were carried out by our ICOY AI technicians, the design was created, then the installation was done, and finally the AI was trained to achieve the solution’s own efficiency levels so as to make that perimeter ‘active’ through the use of audio and visual alerts. By ‘active’ we mean the ability of the AI to detect the presence of a person (or other entity requested by the customer) within the critical perimeter. ICOY Guardian is not a simple detection system, it is an evolved tool that allows the diversification of the entities recognised and the customised management of each customer’s needs.
