28 April 2025 marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work, promoted by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). This year’s theme is ‘Revolutionizing health and safety at work: artificial intelligence and digitisation in the world of work’.
The importance of the World Day for Health and Safety at Work
Established in 2003 by the ILO, this day aims to raise awareness of the importance of preventing occupational injuries and illnesses. It is also an occasion to commemorate workers who have lost their lives or suffered work-related injuries. In Italy, the day coincides with the International Day for Asbestos Victims and World Immunisation Week.
The campaign for the Day aims to shed light on how new technologies are transforming occupational health and safety, including through automation, the use of intelligent occupational health and safety tools and monitoring systems, ‘extended reality’ and virtual reality, and algorithmic work management.
